Jim Dougan offers a clever and funny take on “Exercises in Style” on his Live Journal page. It takes the form of a script by Harvey Pekar which is a dead-on parody of/tribute to Our Man in Cleveland. Bonus feature: Josh Neufeld weighs in on working with the real Pekar in the comments, and even posts an actual script for those of you who have never seen one.
And speaking of Josh, I don’t know how many people noticed, but he stuck what is probably the most obscure reference yet to my “Exercises in Style” in the improvised jam comic he did a while back with Dean Haspiel, Lionel’s Lament:
Nice one, thanks Josh.
Hi Matt!
My partner and I gave a little speech to highschool students at the NormanRockwell museum last week and saw your work in the graphic novel show! It was sweeeet! You may not remember me, but I snuck into a few of your SVA classes when I was a soph in 2004 🙂
Veronica, you must have snuck in pretty sneakily because I’m afraid I dont remember you!
I’m glad you liked the show–I
ll be up there in April to do a workshop. (details to follow here on the blog)
