99 Ways chez L’Association!

November 6, 2006 by matt 8 Comments

I guess I can retire from comics now: I’ve been published by L’Association, one of THE great comics publishers ever. This is the definitive edition of my book: much nicer paper stock, flaps, and an expanded color section. I just got my copy from the printer; the book goes on sale in France in mid-November.

Welcome to Matt Madden’s blog

October 12, 2006 by matt 2 Comments

I’ll be using this blog primarily to give news about various things I’m up to in the world of comics, but I’ll also be posting occasional sketchbook pages, works-in-progress, plugs and reviews… the usual blog stuff. I'm a cartoonist and teacher best known for my book 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style (Penguin), a comics adaptation of Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style. Thanks to that book I was made the U.S. Correspondent of Oubapo, Workshop for Potential Comics, and later a French knight in the Order of Arts and Letters.

From 2012 to 2016 I did an extended residency at La Maison des auteurs in Angoulême, France. Since the end of 2016 I've been living in Philadelphia where I'm working as a part-time cartoonist and full-time dad.
